Sranan Folktales is a horror web series based on Surinamese supernatural folktales. Episode 2: Kim, deals with the belief that walking backwards may prevent a Jumbie – a type of mythological spirit or demon in Caribbean folklore – from following you inside when you’re coming home late at night.
Dwayne’s life is shattered when his wife dies. After the farewell ceremony, he gets into a car crash, returning to the scene of the accident the next day. On the way, he meets a mysterious woman in need. When he decides to stay with her, their get-together turns into a bizarre cosmic nightmare.
During history class, Rinio, Marvin and Dogla hear about the mysterious ‘Fort Buku’, once the hideout of the Boni freedom fighters. These warriors were enslaved people who regained their freedom and fought against colonial oppression. The fort has never been found. The three friends decide to search for it in the Surinamese jungle. What starts as an adventurous journey into the past gradually reveals a magical connection to their roots.
When an Indigenous hunter from the Wayana people of Suriname is going home for the day, he comes face to face with the Dutch colonizers who have been terrorizing the tribes in the area. To prevent his tribe from the same fate, he fights back against the tyranny with what he knows best…the jungle.
