Julie Corman was connected to Roger both privately and professionally for over fifty years, running their companies American Independent Pictures and New Horizons together, and making independent films and B-movies. The Cormans discovered some of Hollywood’s brightest stars and built an impressive oeuvre of low-budget cult films. Julie produced early works by Martin Scorsese (Boxcar Bertha), Jonathan Demme (Crazy Mama) and John Sayles (who wrote The Lady in Red), as well as sex comedies and genre films. In 1984, she decided to focus on family films and started her own company. She was also the Chair of the Graduate Film department at NYU and has given numerous seminars at various American universities.
In this special talk, Julie Corman will be looking back on her lifelong collaboration with Roger, creating genre cinema on a shoestring – or less.
