This year’s festival theme Ghost in the Feed treats every format, reel and frequency as a haunted artifact, and what’s more haunted than an archive? Beeld & Geluid holds a million hours of Dutch radio, TV, film and web reaching back to 1898 – storing the fears and fantasies of every era on its shelves. We sent seasoned filmmakers and artists of the NFA’s Master Artistic Research in and through Cinema into the maze. These ghostbusters combed through the collection, sliced it open, and reanimated what they found: suppressed news stories, forgotten media panics, broadcast dreads of bombs or outsiders, or the unease with which TV, the computer and the mobile phone were met. Their findings were shaped into short found-footage films, made for the occasion and screened only at Imagine. The creators will be present to guide us through the haunting.
