Casey, a lonely teenager with an absent father, takes part in the online World’s Fair Challenge. For this strange occult game, she engages in fantasy roleplay while documenting the physical and psychological changes she experiences. But during this alienating process, she starts to lose touch with herself.
Before director Jane Schoenbrun made waves with I Saw the TV Glow and Teenage Sex and Death in Camp Miasma, they debuted with We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, a psychological coming-of-age horror feature about adolescence in the digital age. Together, the three films form Schoenbrun’s Screen Trilogy, united by a focus on self-induced hallucinations. In We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, the boundaries between reality and imagination dissolve completely. Schoenbrun based it on their own experiences with gender dysphoria and roaming around the early internet. A perfect fit for our Ghost in the Feed-programme.
