A young woman battles the elements as well as her personal life, in Hugo Keijzer’s sci-fi survival thriller.

To pay for the treatment of her terminally ill sister, young geologist Abby takes on a job in the remote Georgian mountains. When disaster strikes in the wilderness, radio contact with a stranger is her lifeline. But gradually, Abby starts to doubt if she can trust him.

Dutch director Hugo Keijzer’s debut feature The Occupant is a sci-fi thriller that keeps its secrets close to its chest for most of its runtime. Ella Balinska is excellent as Abby, matched only by the breathtaking backdrop of the stunning-but-dangerous Georgian mountains. Much more than a survival story, The Occupant delivers a second, layered storyline, adding complexity: it’s not only about battling the elements, but about loss and grief as well.

On Saturday, November 1st and Tuesday, November 4th, director Hugo Keijzer and the cast and crew will join us for a Q&A.
