An investigation into a mysterious corpse leads to monstrous discoveries.
Thirty-six years after her father’s disappearance, forensic pathologist Meg is asked to examine his body. Something about the crime scene doesn’t feel right, and against her better judgement Meg decides to join the investigation. As she delves deeper into the case, she uncovers things she could never have imagined.
For his psychological horror film The Cycle, director Jordan Downey (V/H/S/Beyond, The Head Hunter) combines the feel of a CSI-style police drama with the tropes of an old-fashioned monster movie. Actress Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood, Daredevil) plays Meg as a woman with a tough exterior, forced to confront her own repressed past. Without spoiling too much: the autopsy scene halfway through this film is one for the books, thanks to special make-up artist Patrick Magee’s brilliant practical effects. A must-see for fans of David Fincher’s grim, atmospheric work as well as Universal Monsters.
