Call your departed loved ones from a phone booth – and see if they talk back.
After the loss of her father, 10-year-old Risa discovers that an out-of-service phone booth allows her to speak with the dead. Each deceased caller has a story. They strike a deal: if Risa can help them resolve their unfinished business, they’ll put her dad on the line.
In 2010, Japanese designer Itaru Sasaki installed a phonebooth in his garden to connect with his deceased cousin. In 2011, after the devastating earthquake in Japan, the booth was offered to grieving survivors. 30.000 people made a call. Today, there are so-called ‘Wind Phones’ everywhere – the Netherlands also has twelve. Risa and the Wind Phone taps into this phenomenon with a tale of dealing with grief and trauma. Argentinian rapper Cazzu makes her acting debut, alongside established actors like Diego Peretti and Joaquín Furriel. Iconic rock band Babasónicos created the beautiful soundtrack.
