An alien brainwash VHS tape unleashes death and destruction in this campy 1980s horror comedy.
A small American town is rocked by a series of bizarre murders. The cause? A mysterious VHS tape of a bad 1950s sci-fi film, rented out by the local video store. When one of the store’s employees discovers that the tape doubles as an alien brainwashing plot, the race for survival begins…
Few films are as unapologetically 1980s as Jeff Lieberman’s ‘so-bad-it’s-good’ cult classic Remote Control. From its video store setting, neon outfits, new wave hairstyles and synth soundtrack, to its retro-futuristic nods to the 1950s. Starring Kevin Dillon (Matt’s lesser-known brother) and the one and only Jennifer Tilly, this hilarious horror comedy successfully taps into the 1980s panic about VHS’s mind-altering effects, making it a delightfully absurd addition to our Ghost in the Feed programme. And of course we had to invite Lieuwe and Levente’s cult night Straight to Video for this edition of Imagine!
