Gloriously warped fairy tale in which love conquers kingdoms, dimensions and reality itself.

In an ancient Chilean kingdom ruined by the plague, a king decides to outlaw love itself. Years later, his own daughter defies him by falling for a man who is swiftly banished. Armed with a magical bracelet, the princess journeys across worlds searching for her love, only to discover just how much her father controls her destiny.

Chilean directors Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña (The Wolf House) reinvent a well-known fairy tale as a delirious, handcrafted journey through medieval fantasy, retro-futurist sci-fi, and contemporary reality. Loosely inspired by Charles Perrault’s Donkeyskin and Jacques Demy’s beloved 1970 adaptation, Donkey Princess – which premiered at Locarno – combines live action with León and Cociña’s distinct stop-motion-inspired animation, creating a constantly mutating universe. Antonia Giesen stars as Diana; AIR’s Jean-Benoît Dunckel made the haunting score. A wildly imaginative and rebellious multiverse romance by two singular filmmakers gleefully dismantling and rebuilding a very familiar tale.
