Cronenbergian erotic fantasy about two hand surgeons and a whole lot of fetishes.
Ingeborg and Adam, two renowned young hand surgeons, are the ideal couple. Their lives are built around order, precision and routine, but something seems to be missing. When they encounter the enigmatic Gaia – first as a patient, then as a willing assistant – their world is turned upside down.
Berlin-based filmmaker and artist Ann Oren’s debut Piaffe (2022), about a woman experiencing a sexual awakening when a horse’s tail grows from her back, put her on the map as a sex-positive talent. Her sensual, perverse, and surprisingly romantic second feature is a logical next step. Objet a is about control versus animalistic desire, and about restraint getting in the way of excitement. The title refers to Lacan’s psychoanalytical concept of ‘objet petit a’, an unattainable object of desire. Here, those objects come in varying shapes and sizes, from shaving brushes to medical devices – all stunningly designed and shot on glorious 16mm.
