A recluse is forced to enter the digital world to save his dog, in this beautiful love letter to retro technology.
Conor Marsh lives a secluded life with his dog, Sandy, until one day he starts playing OBEX – a new, state-of-the-art computer game. When Sandy goes missing, the line between reality and game blurs and Conor must venture into the strange universe of OBEX to bring her home.
Director Alfred Birney follows up his magical debut Strawberry Mansion (Imagine 2021) with a lo-fi exploration of old and new media, shot in striking black and white by cinematographer, co-writer and co-editor Pete Ohs. The story starts in 1987, in a room full of VHS tapes and humming old school TV monitors. All very retro and cute. But when Conor enters the world of OBEX to defeat the masked demon IXAROTH, things get really weird. A beautiful, almost handcrafted love letter to the technology of the past.
