Intimate DIY horror about death and a witch. Winner of the Cheval Noir at Fantasia!
After a failed round of chemotherapy, desperate young Mickey and her sceptical father venture into a remote forest to meet a mysterious woman. She is the witch Solveig, an imposing matriarch with a penchant for necromancy. Solveig promises a cure, but at what cost? DIY filmmaking at its finest.
Mother of Flies is the surprisingly understated new film by The Adams Family (without that extra 'd'), a clan of filmmakers and actors who write, act and direct as a single unit. The supernatural horror story explores the borderland between life and death, contrasting deliberately sparse dialogue with nightmarish dreamscapes. This deeply personal story, based on the Adamses’ own experiences with cancer, serves as a spiritual sequel to their highly acclaimed Hellbender (2021). Shot in the Catskills forest where they live, the film also features an outstanding home-made garage-punk score. It took home the top trophy at Fantasia festival in Montreal.
On Friday October 31st and Wednesday November 5th, directors Toby Poser and John Adams and actress Lulu Adams are joining us for a Q&A.
