On the run from the armed conflict in Colombia, Nuria (12), Fabio (9) and their mother Amparo arrive on a small island in the middle of Amazonia. Out of the blue, their lost father reappears and they discover the island is inhabited by ghosts.
Shot on the real island of Isla de la Fantasia – situated in the Amazonian no-man’s land between Brazil, Colombia and Peru – Los Silencios focuses on Colombian migrants that fled the armed conflict in their country, hoping to migrate to Brazil. Brazilian director Beatriz Seigner’s debut feature slow-burns into a magical-realist tale about shared trauma: nothing is what it seems on this island. The second part of the film delivers a gut-punch for the audience, with some surprising twists and authentic testimonies by real Colombians.
