A love triangle turns supernatural as three teenage girls discover who they really are.

During the 2001 economic crisis in Argentina, teenage besties Natalia, Mariela and Josefina fall in love with the same boy, Diego. When Diego starts a relationship with an older girl, the friends turn to witchcraft, and things start to get really, really weird.

Set over the course of a single hot, oppressive summer, Laura Casabe’s intense exploration of teenage lust and coming-of-age sizzles with tension and personality. As Argentina collapses economically, the main characters explode with raw teen angst. When things start to really boil over, Casabe adds genre elements beautifully, elevating an otherwise all-too-familiar story. The Virgin of the Quarry Lake’s discordant, often unsettling sound design traps the audience in the same space as the teens, and visual motifs play on their desolation and destitute surroundings. A believable and utterly frightening story.
