A murder investigation becomes a hallucinatory nightmare of AI and rebellion.
In a near future ruled by sentient AI, private detective Djonny is investigating a brutal murder inside a refugee camp when he meets Rana, a mysterious rebel who wants to disrupt the system. As Djonny's search deepens, reality fractures, threatening his identity, his family, and the artificial order of things.
Polish director Agnieszka Smoczyńska returns with a feverish sci-fi thriller that turns technological anxiety into something tactile, surreal, and dangerously seductive. Andrzej Konopka’s adds a lot of pathos to the increasingly wobbly detective, while Noomi Rapace brings magnetic intensity to cyber-witch Rana. Shot by longtime collaborator Jakub Kijowski and fuelled by Marcin Macuk and Zuzanna Wrońska’s hypnotic score, Hot Spot moves from dystopian noir into total sensory overload. It's political and playful in equal measure, audaciously imagining AI as an omnipresent force reshaping reality itself, rather than just technology.
