Two small-town policemen arrive at a grisly crime scene with a mutilated carcass of a cow. Local hunters blame a tiger that’s said to roam the mountains, but soon, the town is under threat from something much bigger, much weirder and much more dangerous.
Ten years (!) after The Wailing, Na Hong-jin is back with Hope, Korea's most expensive film ever and a massive hit at the local box-office. The mysterious first hour focuses on the policemen, the hunters and the community in search of the animal that threatened their livelihood. Once it becomes clear that they’re dealing with a different kind of evil, Hope shifts gears, turning into a rollercoaster ride with extended action sequences, stunt work, slapstick comedy and loads of blood and gore. The finale of this madcap extravaganza hints at an ever-expanding conflict, introducing new faces and even a sequel.
