Japan is rebuilt from devastation only for its greatest nightmare to rise once again.

Two years after Godzilla devastated postwar Japan, Koichi Shikishima and his family are longing for stability – as is their country. But their hard-won peace is shattered when a new catastrophe emerges, forcing the survivors to confront another impossible threat as Japan once again faces annihilation.

Writer, director, and visual-effects supervisor Takashi Yamazaki is back for the follow-up to his Academy Award-winning Godzilla Minus One, and the 39th film in the franchise. Godzilla Minus Zero is set in 1949, a few years down the line from One, and ups the stakes in every regard. Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe reprise their roles, joined by Min Tanaka as a war-scarred biologist, and Yamazaki’s signature fusion of intimate postwar drama and overwhelming kaiju spectacle is a sight to behold. With fragile recovery threatened by another wave of destruction, this highly anticipated new iteration asks whether a nation rebuilt from nothing can survive another heartbreak.

The screening of Godzilla Minus Zero at Imagine is a special Filmhallen Fast Forward pre-screening, so you'll be the first to see the film in The Netherlands! Before the films starts, Filmhallen and Schokkend Nieuws magazine will dive deeper into the Kaiju subgenre, and there's an exciting filmquiz with roaringly great prizes to be won.
