A village priest is visited by a brother and sister who both claim to be the Holy Spirit. There can be only one, of course, so could the priest be their judge please? Reluctantly, he agrees, hoping to get rid of them. But his own secret soon leads him to incredible places.
Baffling in concept and dark in execution, Mark H. Rapaport’s second feature is a film like no other. Drawing on his own church upbringing, Rapaport blends intense religious obsession and manipulation with psychological delusion and incest. It’s dark all right, but Godhead also seeks the light in a finale revolving around trust and redemption. Stunningly shot in Academy ratio and black and white, the director uses claustrophobic and voyeuristic camera angles to trap the audience inside an isolated church, which heightens the paranoia. A darkly lyrical film, culminating in an otherworldly ending.
