Superpowered mutants are once again pursued by freak hunters, in this topical and dazzling sequel.
Years after their escape from the Abnormal Defence Force, Mary and her young daughter Chloe live on the road, hiding from their enemies. Dreaming of revenge against the officer who killed her firstborn, Mary's mission goes downhill when Chloe’s supernatural visions unearth buried secrets.
Freaks was Imagine 2019’s closing film, with directors Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky attending. Seven years on, they’re back with a dazzling, hotly anticipated sequel that picks up after where the first one left off. The ‘normal’ people’s motive to hunt the freaks is fittingly updated to Trump’s ICE age, making Freaks Part II more urgent and topical than its predecessor. But despite taking on bigger themes, the story remains focused on the families of the hunter and the hunted and their respective losses. A touching finale evokes empathy for both sides.
On 1 November, Zach Lipovsky will be present for a Q&A after the screening.
