Alone, in your bed, in the dark. A voice settles over you, close as a confidant, and lays an offer beside you on the pillow: never to die. There are conditions. You could choose to wait for a cure for mortality – but it won’t arrive in time.
The third DARKFIELD Radio work in this retrospective, and the only one you’ll face alone, ETERNAL takes the oldest temptation there is and whispers it to you at your most defenceless: your bed, at night, with your eyes closed. Commissioned by the Bram Stoker Festival and steeped in the blood of Dracula, ETERNAL pits childhood fears of the dark against a very adult bargain, and asks what you would be willing to trade, and what you would become, in order to live forever. Through binaural sound alone, your bed becomes another world, at turns seductive and coercive – warm one moment, merciless the next.
