The two of you, sitting opposite one another at the kitchen table, headphones on, lights out. A voice draws you into the features of the person you know best, closer and closer, until the most familiar face in the world starts to detach from the person wearing it.
The first work made for DARKFIELD Radio, DOUBLE is a troubling study of intimacy and trust, built on the Capgras delusion – the conviction that a loved one has been replaced by an identical replica with malign intentions. There’s only one rule: everyone has to be who they say they are. With nothing but binaural sound in a darkened kitchen, audio illusionists DARKFIELD turn the most ordinary room in the house into something uncanny, and the person you love into an uncertainty. DOUBLE made history as the first audio-only work ever to be selected for the Venice International Film Festival.
