A surreal, ethereal film that’s neither dream nor nightmare, about a writer whose life unravels.
Bernard is an eccentric writer who lives in a penthouse with his pet sheep Fiete. When his father gets ill, Bernard's world is turned upside down, throwing him into a series of surreal encounters featuring his girlfriend Agata, a floating neighbour, stoic medics and a giant grasshopper.
In his second feature, director Elmar Imanov creates an exquisitely eerie environment for his lead character, filled with bizarre elements that add to Bernard’s sense of disorientation and awkwardness. His visions - caused by fear, loneliness and anxiety - blend with the dreamlike state of his surroundings, blurring the line between the real and the subconscious. Bernard is the centre of his own universe, keeping both his father and girlfriend at an emotional distance. Borris Kehl’s intimate, stylish cinematography and Imanov’s calm and assured direction pull the viewer into a world that’s neither dream nor nightmare but enchanting all the same.
Director Elmar Imanov will be joining us for a Q&A on Saturday, November 1st.
