In this groundbreaking multi-user VR experience, you and two other participants will travel through four chambers, each telling an authentic story of sexual identity and self-discovery. Co-created with real people who share their most intimate memories and fantasies, Dark Rooms oscillates between documentary and dream, with desire emerging from shadow into light.
This daring work embodies Imagine's Rites of Passage theme at its very core: participants cross the threshold from social conformity into spaces of raw honesty, taking part in the protagonists’ transformative journeys. Entering Dark Rooms means leaving behind shame and prejudice to witness — and perhaps acknowledge — the hidden chambers within ourselves. The experience navigates the space between documentary realism and Fantastic aesthetics, using elements from horror, science fiction to fantasy to visualise internal landscapes of desire. After it's all done, you won’t just take the transformative stories of others with you, but also an invitation to explore your own unspoken truths.
