A retired detective finds new horrors in the countryside in a tense, claustrophobic tale of urban isolation.
After being attacked by a psycho, detective Takakura moves to a quiet town and starts lecturing criminal psychology at the university. But he can't forget the thrill of the chase, so when former colleague Nogami asks him to reopen an old case, he jumps right in.
After the gentler Journey to the Shore, Kiyoshi Kurosawa returned to familiar territory with this tense study of urban isolation, freely adapted from the award-winning novel by Yukata Maekawa. Creepy shows the everyday horror of our existence in plain sight, without stylizing it. The hostility and indifference that Takakura and his wife encounter in their new environment is mirrored by the cold case he’s chasing. Creepy’s creepiness starts with ominous vibes, weird clues and a general sense that something’s off – and once the horror hits, there’s no escaping its suffocation.
On 2 November, Imagine's 2026 Guest of Honour Kiyoshi Kurosawa will be joining us for a Q&A after the screening.
