Witty documentary about one of the most hated horror films of all time.

Exorcist II: The Heretic was supposed to follow William Friedkin’s smash hit The Exorcist, but the production turned sour. In hilarious interviews, the colourful cast and crew talk candidly about one of the biggest flops in film history.

John Boorman, known for hillbilly horror Deliverance and idiosyncratic fantasy Zardoz, jumped at the chance to turn the Exorcist sequel into his own intellectual horror masterpiece. It didn’t quite go as planned. From the infamous tap-dancing scene to a plague of locusts, this documentary is full of outrageous anecdotes from actresses Linda Blair and Louise Fletcher, among others, and Boorman himself. The sheer amount of misfortune even sparked the rumour of a demon Pazuzu curse. Despite it all, Boorman and the Devil is an exhilarating, cinephile ode to the fearless filmmakers who risk everything for their art, no matter the cost.

On Sunday, November 2nd, this film will be introduced by the editor-in-chief for Schokkend Nieuws, Julius Koetsier.
