A monkey that was raised by humans follows the footsteps of his mother to the Holy Mountain to uncover the secret of warmth. A Story About Fire is based on an ancient legend of the Qiang, an ethnic minority from the southwest of China. Produced by the legendary Shanghai Animation Film Studio, the film is hand-drawn in the style of traditional Chinese ink painting, supplemented by Escher-inspired photographic elements and scenes. Delicate colours, with dominant whites and shades of grey, reflect the simplicity of the story and set the film apart from other popular animation. Divided in eight chapters, the story touches on personal growth, friendship, cooperation and rejection, paving the way for a heartwarming conclusion.
