Extra programming

Amsterdam’s only video rental store started in a small bridge house in Noord, before moving to FC Hyena and ending up at Eye Filmmuseum. During Imagine, they’ll be running a temporary VHS pop-up store in LAB111.

ClubVHS was founded by film lovers Ismay and Eli, who wanted to bring back the old-school video store experience. Why let Netflix decide what to watch, when you could be browsing lovely chunky video tapes, DVDs or Blu-rays? ClubVHS even rents out the players to go with them! An authentic 1990s video store experience, and an obvious must for our Ghost in the Feed theme programme.

Club VHS can be found in the basement of LAB111 all festival days from 4pm.

In 1955, Gijs Molenaar opened the Concerto music store at Utrechtsestraat 60 in Amsterdam. It’s still there today, and will be going on a quick trip to LAB111 during Imagine.

Stepping inside Concerto is like entering a different world, spread across five spaces packed with vinyl, CDs and DVDs. You could browse for hours or just grab something on the go. Concerto’s offer is as diverse as its audience, with every genre represented, from new releases to timeless classics as well as a huge selection of films. On Sunday, Concerto will be at Imagine with a pop-up shop full of genre films. Don’t miss out!

The Concerto Pop-Up Show will be held in the basement of LAB111 on Sunday 1 November, from 1am – 8pm.

Come and swap your DVDs, VHS tapes and Blu-rays at this celebration of physical media.  

Endlessly scrolling through mediocre movies and shows, lazily picking whatever’s most popular this week. Are you as fed up with streaming services as we are are? Then you’re invited to rummage through your attic, basement or under your parents’ couch, dust off those video tapes, and curate your own collection. You’ll always have something of your own choosing to watch!

From that one horror classic you know by heart, to the most obscure anime that’s impossible to find: do you have a DVD just lying around, just gathering dust? Or a VHS tape of a cult gem that everyone should see at least once? Bring your collection of genre films and swap them with like-minded cinephiles. Or just come by to show your face and your love of physical media. Everyone is welcome!

Swapping will commence on 1 November at 2:15pm in LAB111’s brand new space, LAB 8 1/2.
