Almost done? No way! We still have four full days of programming for you. Today features a shrinking man, a creepy stalker, J-horror, and a special screening of Night of the Juggler (cultiest of all). You’ll also see another parade of Dutch films (and filmmakers).

Nieuw Nederlands Peil 3
Today at 19:00 and tomorrow at 12:30 in LAB111
Nieuw Nederlands Peil includes both surprising newcomers and seasoned veterans. Femke Huurdeman (Carve) and Mikki Sindhunata (The Gift), for instance, have not previously been featured at Imagine. Jasper ten Hoor (HorrorWiebe), however, is a familiar face, coming to NNP3 with his short film Pocongdorie (pictured), which he made together with Ivan Hidayat. Also on the list: Do No Harm by Eron Sheehan (whom we know as the Director of Photography for Ruwan Heggelman’s Meliès d’Argent and d’Or winner Gnomes), and dazzling animation Frankenstein’s Dream. Director Simon Pummell is the true veteran of this group, with a series of feature-length and short films and documentaries on his CV. All the filmmakers will be present for a Q&A session afterwards.
Kino Cult Status: Night of the Juggler
21:20 in LAB111, with side programme
Night of the Juggler (1980) takes you to the New York of Abel Ferrara’s Driller Killer and William Lustig’s Maniac: an ideal hunting ground for psychopaths and criminals. James Brolin – yep, Josh’s dad – is searching this urban jungle for the man who kidnapped his daughter. A wonderfully sleazy revenge film that absolutely deserves its cult status. KINO Rotterdam didn’t just chose the film but are also providing tonight’s supporting programme.
Films of the day
Was The Incredible Shrinking Man, the 1957 classic based on a Richard Matheson story, due for an update? Purists might say no; we say ‘hell yes’, as did Utrecht-born French director Jan Kounen. We also love the fact that Jean ‘The Artist‘ Dujardin plays the lead role. Today at 4:45 PM in the Filmhallen.
Matthew, the focus of Lurker (7:00 PM in the Filmhallen), is the kind of person who feeds off the fame of others. The object of Matthew’s sick adoration? Pop star Oliver, who, significantly, sings ‘What’s the difference between love and obsession?’. Highly praised directorial debut from Alex Russell, who wrote hit series The Bear and Beef.
Our team tips for today and later
Inez, Programmer: ‘Dollhouse is a wild rollercoaster-ride of a film for fans of old-school J-horror. The story takes some pretty unexpected turns, incorporating traditional Japanese culture. It also features a creepy AF doll with real hair, nails and teeth!’
7 November at 21:15
Evrim, Programmer: ‘The crown jewel in the filmography of Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani. A kaleidoscopic cornucopia of violence, style and abject lust. To see it is to love it.’
Tonight at 19:10 in the Filmhallen
