Satan Wants You takes us back to the eighties’ Satanic Panic and to one book that started it all. “Michelle Remembers”, the brainchild of a psychiatrist Lawrence Pazdur and his patient Michelle Smith, is a (highly unethical) recovered-memory therapy memoir drenched in abduction, magic rituals and satanism. All the good stuff.
A second feature for directorial duo Steve J. Adams and Sean Horlor, Satan Wants You has world premiered earlier this year at the SXSW Film Festival. With amyriad of impressive interviewees, including some relatives of Pazdur, the documentary takes a deep dive into a book that has irrevocably shaped the course of history. Think Qanon, pizza gate, cult leader Teal Swan (herself a patient of Pazdur). The Satanic Panic has left unhealed wounds and we can still to this day taste its poison. In the words of the authors themselves, “What Michelle remembers, you will never forget”.
