Former detective Uday Shetty was presumed dead for years after a shooting. He lives a secret life as an assassin named Kennedy and does the dirty work for corrupt business men and his former chief of police. But it slowly becomes apparent that Uday is also preparing his own vengeance.
Anurag Kashyap international breakthrough was about ten years ago with the gangster epic Gangs of Wasseypur (Imagine 2013). That film’s flamboyant style is a stark contrast with Kennedy’s sober and gloomy look. The film takes place during the various stages of covid and shows how the state and the elite cleverly managed to exploit the epidemic financially. Uday is an antihero who’s as tragic as he is violent, who moves in the decrepit underbelly of Mumbai as well as in the glitz and glamour of the corrupt rich, in a neo-noir that regularly shines in spectacular action scenes.
