Two friends find a door to other worlds in an original and amusing low-budget sci-fi.

Documentary makers Ash and Sam come across a short video showing a young woman in a dilapidated building stepping through a door and suddenly disappearing. They track down the maker and transport the door to Sam’s apartment. Obviously, this is not without consequences and new worlds open up to them.

With minimal means and a tiny budget, director Graham Jones manages to open up entire worlds of ideas. The fact that the two protagonists are both afraid and wildly curious, makes Hostile Dimensions relatable – who wouldn’t want to find out what’s behind that mysterious door, and if we would end up better or happier in another world. Hughes asks these questions in an engaging and light-hearted manner, aided by conspiracy theorists and bizarre creatures from peculiar parallel worlds. Frequently making use of found footage, the filmmakers show that a metaverse without Marvel’s millions is a lot more original and fun.
