An ordinary high school student holds the fate of humanity in his hands, in a dizzying retro sci-fi tour de force.

Hana is an ordinary high school student, until she dreams one night about a young girl who lives in Japan’s feudal era. Soon she is chased by a mysterious police unit, who are convinced that her dreams can save the world. Does Hana really possess extraordinary powers?

Imagine screens at least one bizarre and head-scratching Japanese film each year, and for 2023 it’s this retro sci-fi tour de force. Almost ten years after his groundbreaking Casshern, Kiriya Kazuaki is back with a dizzying film, alternating effortlessly between the present, the feudal past and the distant future. Beautifully designed, the extraordinary world of From the End of the World looks and feels more like an anime than a live action film. And just when the film seems to be heading towards a slightly too predictable ending, Kazuaki delivers a final scene that turns everything that happened before on its head.
