video nasty: basket case

Straight to Video presents: Basket Case After the screening of Méliès d’Argent winner Censor, we stay in the Video Nasty atmosphere for a while with Basket Case (1982). In this quirky horror film by Frank Henenlotter (Brain Damage), a set of twins takes a horrific revenge on the doctors who separated them as children. Thanks to the combination of grotesque violence, pitch-black humor and an unmistakable DIY charm, Basket Case has grown into a cult classic of stature. While this title was never officially on the Video Nasty list, copies of this film were frequently seized and destroyed in video store raids by UK authorities. Nearly twenty years after its release, Basket Case was first released in the UK in its uncensored version.

This performance is hosted by Straight to Video, LAB111’s monthly cult evening. VHS freaks Willem van Rossum and Eric van der Woude introduce Basket Case and preface some trailers of the best and worst Video Nasty’s in film history.
